*Note: A Petoskey stone is a rare mineral rock whose interior is fossilized sea coral.  Trained eyes can form predictions about the quality of the coral deposits from the outside.  However, the stone must be roughly polished; layer by layer of exterior rock removed to see the coral interior.  NOLS was my polishing stone.  Like the layers of rock removed to reveal the beauty of a Petoskey stone, the mountain journey can never conceal what it already polished in my soul.
